Monica Lewinsky Urges Online Communications with More Compassion


Monica Lewinsky, speech at the Ted (Technology, Entertainment and Design) conference, requests for a more compassionate internet, and she also calls for ending online humiliation.
According to Digital Marketing Agency, Lewinsky state, “the internet had established a culture where people enjoyed viewing others’ shame online; she describes herself as one the first victims of cyberblling.”
She continued, “I experienced own personal humiliation far worse from the internet; I was branded a tart, a slut, a whore, a bimbo. I lost my reputation and my dignity and I almost lost my life.”
Lewinsky told the story of 18-year-old Tyler Clementi, a student, of being captured video in bed with another man. Mr Clementi committed suicide, jumping from the George Washington Bridge, because of online harassment.
Lewinsky, at the end, urged internet users to communicate via online with more compassion. Her speech obtained a standing ovation.
