Digital Marketing Agency, IBM has launched its first SoftLayer cloud data center in Tokyo, Japan. The purpose of the site is to address a fast-growing local market which increasingly wants local data storage with IBM claiming more than 1000 infrastructure as a service (IaaS) customers in Japan, where it says its cloud business grew 600 percent in 2014.
IBM is rapidly opening SoftLayer data centers in a $1.2 billion investment spree, which has already put facilities in Melbourne and Paris, as well as Hong Kong. The spread of facilities aims to allow more redundancy and address growing concerns about data residency and privacy so sensitive data can remain in its country of origin.
Lance Crosby, CEO of IBM SoftLayer, said: "Since we established a Singapore cloud data center in September 2011, SoftLayer has seen tremendous growth in the Asia-Pacific market. Our new cloud data center in Tokyo will support this evolving market."
