Digital Marketing Agency thesnsgroup.com) - South
Korean electronics maker Samsung is reportedly set to acquire SmartThings,
a startup that lets people use a mobile app to control connected devices such
as thermostats, Internet-connected burglar alarms, televisions and light
switches.
This move comes as fellow technology heavyweights
Apple Inc. and Google Inc. are exploring ways to integrate connected household
gadgets, a trend commonly known as "Internet of Things."
The financial term between Samsung and SmartThings,
though, has yet been revealed despite reports saying it is in excess of $200
million.
Founded in 2012, SmartThings has some 5,000 developers
building devices that connect to its open platform to date and will continue to
operate independently.
