Agency, A report by
industry analysts 451 Research suggests that the worldwide colocation market
will bring $36.1 billion in annual revenues by the end of 2017.
That’s a significant rise from $22.8 billion in revenues
projected for this year – of which 78 percent belongs to small local players. Kelly
Morgan, research director for North American Data Centers, noted: “This remains
an extremely fragmented industry.”
He added: “The majority of colocation facilities are
provided by local operators with only one to three facilities each. However, it
is becoming harder for them to compete with the more geographically diverse
providers that are now entering many local markets. We will see continued
consolidation in this sector.”
