(Digital
Marketing Agency) – Though common, diarrhea is still a concern among many
other general diseases. Hence, a group of researchers has developed an
‘electronic nose’ to detect the germs that cause the illness to occur.
The found system can sniff the distinctive scent
of Clostridium difficile (C. diff), which causes the diarrhea condition, using
a mass spectrometer.
By sniffing out the scent, electronic nose can
classify unique strains in the chemical for seeking a better treatment since
different strains cause different symptoms with require different therapies.
“Current tests for C. difficile do not generally
give strain information – this test could allow doctors to see what strain is
causing the illness and allow doctors to tailor their treatment,” said Martha
Clokie from the department of infection, immunity and inflammation.
